W3 ~ Care and Feeding of Your Percussion Equipment non-member

Minimum enrollment: 6 participants  Course maximum: 20 participants.

So, are you a drummer or a percussionist?  How do you REALLY carry timpani?  Why so many different sticks and mallets?  If you want to know more about the instruments in your section, join this fun, interactive, and informative workshop.  This is an interactive workshop.  Please bring your sticks and/or mallets.

Pre-requisite skills: Some experience performing in a percussion environment is required.  Ability to read percussion music is required.

John Kraus is a graduate of Western University.  The founding music director of the Durham Chamber Orchestra and the Lakeridge Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, John is currently the music director of the Northumberland Orchestra & Choir, as well as clarinetist with the Lavender Chamber Ensemble. In 2017, John was one of 5 national nominees for the Heinz Unger Conducting Prize, as administrated by the Ontario Arts Council. Teaching and instructing have long been a passion of John’s and he recently concluded a successful 30+ year career in the school system. He continues to work with developing musicians, young and not-so-young, as a member of the Canadian Music Festival Adjudicator Association and as an instructor at the Lakefield Summer Music camp.
