Beginner Jazz – Patricia Wheeler
Class Dates – Wednesdays – June 5, 12, 19, 26, July 3, 10
Time – 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Minimum Registration – 15 participants
This class will start with listening to classic jazz models, i.e., Miles Davis “Kind of Blue”, discuss the stylistic features of the music, and the role each instrument plays in a mainstream, bop/post bop ensemble. Members will learn basic rhythms and style patterns on their instruments. For this ensemble, the drummer must be able to work 3 limbs independently (in time), and pitch players must know, and be able to play, full compass, concert Bb, Eb, C, F and G scales.
Note: Rhythm section is limited to 2 bass players, 1 piano and guitar, and 1 drummer.
